There’s No Fear In New

People wonder why I workout so much and why I’m passionate about it. Over the years it’s just become a core part of my life.

I grew up as an overweight kid. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that food was one of my best friends. I didn’t know much about nutrition then either so the pounds came easily. I remember even thinking at one point that slurpees were healthy because they didn’t have any fat, only sugar...

I actually didn’t really start working out until I was a freshman in high school. I remember when running on the treadmill for 10 minutes seemed like an incredible feat of athleticism. Now running an hour non stop or doing a 2 hour session at the gym seems like just another day.

Ironically while I started off doing it for the outward results it’s the inward development that has been the most rewarding. Building an athletic mentality. Focus, dedication, persistence, consistency, determination are just a few of the qualities it helps to cultivate. And those are things that don’t stay at the gym, they enhance your experience of life in every area on so many levels.

For years I treated my week like a professional playoff game. I had to workout four out of seven days like a team has to win four out of seven games for the win. I pulled that off every week for the last 4 years in a row. Now I’m up to five out seven. Because like anything, to keep growing you gotta keep raising the bar.
